ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL UPDATE!
It’s update time once again, and I have to say, again… WOW. Thank you. In just a few short months we went from about 250 pods listed on the site to 300. THANK YOU!
As I mentioned in the December 2017 update, the future of RPG Casts holds some pretty exciting things:
- The RPG Casts Podcast
- Front Page Featured Pods
- Newsletter
- Giveaways
You can expect to hear more about the podcast as I hype it in the May update, as well as more info about front page featured pods, newsletter and giveaways.
REPRESENTATION MATTERS
As you know, back in December I added the new categories to highlight members of the LGBTQ+ community and people of colour. Since then, you’ve probably noticed categories that highlight Non-Binary players and hosts, as well an all-women/non-binary cast member category. As mentioned previously, these are new categories, so podcasts added earlier might not yet be appropriately tagged. I promise this is still being worked on; I know that representation matters and is so important to our community. Please remember that I’m one person running this entire site, so it sometimes takes me a while to get things done.
SITE FEEDBACK
To those of you who responded to my feedback survey on the site, thank you so much. It helped me immensely in pointing out areas I didn’t realize people liked so much, and I loved the positive and kind words people left for me. I’d like to address three of the biggest shortfalls of the site, of which I was aware of but that I feel I should respond to:
SEARCH FUNCTIONALITY
I’ll be honest and upfront: this is something that might take a bit to perfect. The current standard search function isn’t beefy enough for all the kinds of tags that we have, and unfortunately the tag cloud only shows the most popular of tags. That being said, I’m working with someone who knows code FAR better than I do to help me either find a paid solution or develop one in-house.
ARCHIVE FOR DEAD PODS
I’m using March as my “clean-up” month, and one of the things that I do is go through the entirety of the site and check to make sure links still work, and unpublish pod pages of podcasts that are no longer releasing episodes. Some of you had some concern about this, and wanted an archive of these. At the moment, that’s not something I am willing do for two major reasons: 1) I want people coming to the site to find the most current podcasts. That means ongoing ones that they can join in on the fandom and listen as the pod releases. 2) I don’t want the site to get overly slow/clunky because of outdated content. I’m already at 300 current podcasts. Can you imagine how many additional pages I would need to have for dead pods? I’m sorry if that disappoints any of you.
SITE MOBILE VERSION
This is on my list of things to get to, as I know that the site isn’t as user friendly as you’d like it to be mobile. All I can say is I promise this will be worked on soon.
AND AS ALWAYS, THANK YOU!
Ultimately, this site couldn’t exist without the creators. They are the reason I started the site. I love RPGs and I love RPG podcasts, and I want to do my part to help signal boost and get the word out about all these awesome shows.
However, if you’re feeling up for helping out with the upkeep costs of the site, and removing Google Ads (my next goal!), please consider buying me a coffee on ko-fi.com/rpgcasts. It takes time, effort, and money to keep RPG Casts running.
Thank you so much for reading and, as always, for listening. Much love, friends.
xo, Tess
